When I tell friends about my plans to buy land in Portugal to go live off the grid I always get asked is “why Portugal”?
Well I guess being Portuguese may have just a tiny bit to do with it, but I think mostly my dad and my upbringing had a huge influence on that. As a 4 year old little girl I was always outdoors, and from a young age I remember pottering around the backgarden with my old man. Living in Windhoek (South West Africa) at the time, I can still smell the scent of freshly picked ‘couve’ my dad grew to made ‘caldo verde’ a Portuguse kale soup. When I was old enough to understand, I came to know that my dad had some property in Portugal. Little did I realise at the time that that was my destiny.
Its only been since my ‘recent’ urg to move stop just wishing it, but doing it, that a letter that I sent to my parents as a 20 year old has surfaced. In this letter in a very bad Portuguese, I asked my mom to please tell my dad to not sell the land in Portugal becasue I wanted to move there and build myself a home.Well unfortunately that never materialised, but my dream to live off grid in Portugal is about to become a reality. Although I should be full of concerns, I am filled with positve ideas, not only for myself but for the greater good of our planet.
I hope you will enjoy reading our journey and join us someday in our little piece of paradise.
